A Word From Our Recruitment Chair
Welcome to the Pi Beta Chapter of Chi Omega!! As the Recruitment Chair, it is my job to tell you about the extraordinary opportunity that is sorority recruitment. I know that stepping into something new can be both thrilling and a little nerve wracking, but trust me when I say that rushing a sorority is a chance you do not want to miss!!

I did not know anyone when I came to school, so I decided to rush in an attempt to meet people and form the forever friendships I had been hearing so much about. I went into the process with an open mind and got to meet so many diverse and wonderful women and the organizations they were a part of. While going through the process, I strived to be really intentional about how I

represented myself. I wanted to be completely me, I didn’t just want to “fit in” somewhere, but I wanted to belong there. It was at Chi Omega where I felt everything click. With every person I met, I felt myself become more intertwined with the chapter. I was accepted for who I was, not just the parts of me I wanted them to see, but everything else too. They cared not only about my past, but wanted to be a part of the person I was going to become. The sisters of Chi Omega made me feel like I finally found a place I belonged, a new home away from home.
Believe it or not, Greek life is a lot more than social events and matching t-shirts, it is a community that encourages deep connections with like-minded individuals who share your values, support you, challenge you, and celebrate you with genuine enthusiasm. It is an organization that creates a positive impact on your life and the lives of others way beyond your years in college. I know that trying new things and being away from home can be intimidating, but remember that growth often lies just beyond our comfort zone. So I encourage you to find the people and the place that make you feel loved, important, and accepted; then remind yourself that you are all of those things no matter what letters you wear!! I found my home in Chi Omega and I want you to find yours too!! I will be cheering you on every step of the way and hope to see you soon :)
What Recruitment Means to Us
Sophie Schwarz, PC' 20
“I remember when I went through recruitment how overwhelmed and excited I was. It’s an exciting time learning about the Panhellenic community and what it can all offer, but it also can be a lot trying to figure out what chapter will be your home at the end of the day. When I first met people at Chi Omega, I remember how I felt valued and seen for who I truly was as a person and I still feel that today. As I look back at the past four years, I am so thankful for all the opportunities that Chi Omega has given me. From networking and personal development, making an impact with Make-A-Wish, and meeting my absolute best friends, I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like if I didn’t go through recruitment."
Samantha Raber, PC' 21
"I don’t think enough people understand how special recruitment is not just for the potential new member, but also for the chapters. Each chapter has its special bonding and training that helps prepare them for this time, but for Chi Omega it is truly filled with memories that will never be forgotten. But what sets Chi Omega apart from the others is that every single member of the chapter is celebrated for their individuality. Each individual's passion, authenticity, and magnetic characteristics radiate brighter than ever during this time. I have never felt more inspired to be a better person than when I was surrounded by this outstanding group of women during recruitment."
Ansley Brody, PC' 22
“Recruitment to me is a blast! It sounds cliche but it truly is a joy to talk and meet so many amazing women and to potentially see them in Chi Omega. For me, recruitment as a freshman was terrifying and I had no idea what I was getting myself into but whenever I stepped into Chi Omega I always felt a wave of relief brush over me. The women are so genuine and welcoming and it felt like I had known them for years! I have now created lasting friendships that inspire and push me to be the best version of myself possible. ”

COB
Continuous Open Bidding
What is COB?
Continuous open bidding is unlike traditional or formal recruitment that is limited to specific timeframes. COB allows Chi Omega to extend bids to potential new members throughout the academic year. This method creates opportunities for individuals who may have missed formal recruitment or who are exploring their options later in the year. Throughout COB, Chi Omega hosts fun events that are open to anyone exploring Greek Life. This past spring, we were lucky to welcome 12 new members through COB!
How Do I Prepare?
No need to stress! We have curated a complete list of what to wear, what to bring, and what to expect. Don't worry, girl, we got you!
What to wear?
One of the most stressful parts about going through recruitment is worrying about what to wear. Don't fret, we got you. Typically, one can be seen wearing the given Panhellenic tee, jeans or a skirt with cute tennis or sandals for open house; a cute top with jeans/skirt or a casual dress for values/house tours; a cute dress with sandals or heels for Philanthropy round, and a nice dress of any length with heels for Preference round. Although this is what's typically worn, remember to be you and wear what you feel confident in! Recruitment is not about what you're wearing, it's about you finding your home, remember that.
What do the days look like?
Each day, your agenda will look different. Open house will give potential new members an opportunity to meet all 11 chapters and learn what makes each unique. After that, they will have the chance to talk to a maximum of 8 chapters while learning their values and touring their house. It is very common to talk to less than 8. Philanthropy round will give potential new members the opportunity to talk to a maximum of 5 chapters, however it is very common to talk to less than 5. They will learn about each chapter's Philanthropy and campus involvement. Preference round will give potential new members a chance to speak with 2 chapters for a longer, more in-depth, values-based conversation. After that, it's BID DAY where they will be welcomed into their new home!
What to bring?
With such busy and filled days, it can be hard to think about all the things you should bring to help you get through it all! Don't be afraid to bring a bag to carry all your things, everyone else will have one too! We've created a list of everything we think you should have in your bag...
- comfortable shoes to walk in from house to house
- WATER & SNACKS
- pen & paper or notes app to keep track of your thoughts on each house
- lipgloss, mini hairbrush & mirror or whatever you need for touchups
- portable charger
Take a minute to recharge!
We completely understand each day of recruitment can be emotionally and physically draining. Make sure you make time in between each round and after every day to take care of yourself. Recruitment is a busy couple of days exploring each house and finding your forever home. Take time to yourself, listen to music, take a nap, drink some water, do whatever you need to enter each round and day ready to have meaningful conversations with all the amazing chapters and girls you will meet! Chi Omega cannot wait to meet you!
